Jim was born on Staten Island, New York, one of the five boroughs of New York City. After high school, he spent eleven years as a Catholic monk, some of those years teaching in the South Bronx. Besides teaching, Jim has been a guidance counselor, principal, film critic, LGBT community activist/organizer, national seminar leader (which has taken him to Dallas, Big Sur CA, Detroit, Provincetown and other cities). Jim served as advice columnist for Match.com, and for the past twenty years, he’s been a dating, relationship, marriage, life coach for the LGBT community. Jim spent three decades living in Park Slope, Brooklyn and Manhattan (Chelsea), he now lives with his partner Phil and “sentient being” (dog) Princess in Northampton, Massachusetts.
